Researches, develops and writes documentation components for a software developer audience. Completed documentation components must demonstrate an understanding of programming documentation principles and development, describe complex state-of-the-art software architectures, and describe how to develop software applications using the Software Developer Kits/Device Driver Kits, APIs, or developer tools being documented. Derives documentation from project source code as part of this process.  Works with more complex technologies and a wider array of technologies. May develop code samples and sample applications for developer documentation.
 
3-5 years work related experience required. Excellent technical writing skills required. The ability to read or write a high-level programming language and understand the principles of high quality software development is required. May require the ability to develop code samples and applications. Must possess expert understanding of one or more major technologies, such as database design and development, networking, client/server applications, security, multimedia, or device drivers, etc. Must have demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, broad but related areas of technology. The ability to be proactive in solving problems is required.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. Work related experience may substitute or degree.

We need a full-time Sr. Programmer/Writer who can spend a majority of the work week on-site documenting internal tools and APIs for an online  Publishing Platform. The contract will be 3-6 mos. to start, and then possibly indefinite duration.
 
Requirements:
 
 Prior experience writing managed API reference documentation.  Specifically, the writer needs the ability to write valid short code samples in C# and script. The writer should understand basic events and process flow, error handling, data types, etc.

·         Demonstrated experience planning, writing, and managing technical review for a small API set and all members.

·         Reasonable familiarity with REST and SOAP web services.  Prior experience writing code examples for tutorial or reference documentation preferred.

·         Prior experience with MSDN-contributor authoring tools and processes would be helpful: DxStudio, DocStudio, XMetal, Source Insight.

·         Reasonable familiarity with web markup required—HTML and XML at a minimum.  Other standards-based markup experience might be helpful (SGML/VML).

·         Prior experience with WPF/Silverlight might be useful.
 
An   An orientation toward user advocacy for a dev audience in the writer’s background somewhere.  This could be an emphasis on technical communications, some exposure to e-learning or user training—something that demonstrates the writer’s awareness of audience beyond basic reference authoring.
